Open source LAN messenger

by cw Email

For one client I have, there is an OpenFire server, running the Jabber protocol successfully. Pidgin on the desktop interfaces with this nicely. It's clean, fast, and works. But They want more. I need to find some way of sending a message to multiple recipients simultaneously. Currently they can use the broadcast plugin inside Openfire to send to ALL, but not a flexible subset.

I have googled a lot with no good result. Anybody know a way to do this?

The pidgin broadcast plugin was killed last year due to potential for spam. I have not been able to get hold of it's developer.
