Free Antivirus for Linux

by cw Email

That's right folks, you can get an antivirus for Linux. Free (if you are a home user). I tried out BitDefender's new product on my home laptop. Go to their site for download and Evaluation license.

Works a treat in scanning. I even threw some known virus / malware files that I had on my work box at it, and it found them (such as Fake Antivirus and Netsky).

"BitDefender Antivirus Scanner for Unices may be used free of charge at home or on your personal computer. In case you want to use BitDefender Antivirus for Unices for business purposes, a registration key must be purchased through the BitDefender Online Store or from BitDefender certified partners"

The interface is dead easy, and the updating is quick.

Well done BitDefender!

So why use an antivirus on Linux? Well who knows, maybe one day we can catch up to those hallowed citizens of Redmond, and maybe get a virus or two to work on Linux. Perhaps we could utilise Wine to do so? ;-)

Actually, a product like this can be useful for those that don't believe in the ability of ClamAV; so that they can scan infected windows pcs and partitions from the comfort of their BSD or Linux box.
